Various “talk therapy” options
Talk therapy, or psychotherapy, is an effective treatment option for depression that can help individuals manage their symptoms and improve their overall quality of life. There are several types of talk therapy that have been shown to be effective in treating depression, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), EMDR, mindfulness based treatments, clinical yoga, Internal Family Systems.
CBT is a form of talk therapy that focuses on changing negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to depression. It helps individuals identify and challenge negative thoughts and replace them with more positive, realistic ones. CBT also teaches coping strategies and problem-solving skills that can help individuals manage their symptoms and prevent future episodes of depression.
EMDR is a widely-used, evidence-based and highly effective treatment modality for many mental health conditions, including depressive disorders. EMDR helps individuals process and reframe disturbing or traumatic memories tin a different way. EMDR accomplishes this through a process of pairing the upsetting memories with bilateral brain stimulation. Guided eye movements, left/right tapping, or holding buzzers in your hand are examples of the types of bilateral brain stimulation we use, that can all accomplish the same outcome of alternatingly stimulating the left and then right sides of your brain. EMDR uses the body’s natural healing processes to promote recovery for depression.
